Lap Band Success - Getting Started With Exercise By Building A Foundation Of Strength
By: Jon Osumi
Getting started on a new exercise routine can seem like a complicated endeavor. Exercise is like any other skill, it may feel awkward at first, but consistency will soon bring familiarity to the routine.
Keep a few pointers in mind when starting out in order to keep things simple. Allow a two to three week period in the beginning to build a foundation, same as in building a house. The first goal in building a foundation is to develop the endurance to complete the entire workout (15-60 minutes). An activity like walking is a convenient endurance builder for those who are not accustomed to exerting for extended periods of time. Strength training is the next element to add. This can be 3 to 5 simple exercises that challenge the pushing, pulling, and leg muscles of the body. Heavy weight is not necessary during the foundation building period; it is more about attention to proper form and continued movement at a consistent pace. During the foundation building, the body is learning how to process more metabolic waste, transport more oxygen to the cells, and increase tensile strength in the connective tissues.
As these attributes increase, the body becomes better equipped to increase strength/endurance to match increasing levels of exertion along with speedier recovery!
