Lap Band Success - How To Stay Focused During Exercise

Printer-Friendly Format

Keeping focused during a workout can be challenging.  As your mind wanders during an exercise set, You may be compromising the quality of the exercise.  Here are a few tricks to help you stay on target:

  • Make sure you breathe on every repetition - preferably inhaling or exhaling at the same rate as your repetitions.
  • Don't think about how many repetitions are remaining - just focus on completing the current one perfectly.  Then focus on the next one, and so on.
  • Keep your eyes on a stationary object rather than allowing other distractions in the room to steal your focus.
  • Think about your core - suck in your tummy, concentrating on drawing your belly button into your back and keeping it there for an entire set.
  • Keep your chest lifted - do not allow your back to round as fatigue sets in.

Keep each of these items on a mental check list as you exercise.  By staying conscious of positive habits your exercise will become more effective.

Remember, when you exercise, not only are your muscles working, but your mindset, your nervous system, and postural habits are being trained as well!
