Lap Band Success - Order of Exercises
By: Jon Osumi

Is there a correct order to complete strength training exercises?  There are some suggestions to follow, but no black and white absolute way that is "the perfect way".

As a rule of thumb, I like to train the legs early in the workout, the torso next, finish with the upper extremities, and then the core.  My reasoning is that the legs are the largest muscle group and will require the most effort so work them while your recovery system is fresh.  As you move on to the torso, pulling exercises promote better posture and would be my next choice.  After pulling exercises, the pushing exercises will balance out the torso.  Arms and shoulders are considered the upper extremities and can be added into your routine to fine tune and tighten the cosmetic appearance.  Last, but definitely not least, is the core.  Save the abdominal/core exercises to the end for you need these muscles fresh and strong as they offer stability for your spine during the workout.

This is a suggested recipe for your exercise routine, but your consistency in exercise every week is most important and is the ultimate goal!
