Lap Band Success - What Is Proper Head/Neck Position When Exercising?
By: Jon Osumi

The best way to reinforce proper posture habits is to exercise with proper posture.  Placing the body under stress, with proper alignment, will slowly reset what the brain considers a 'position of comfort'.  The position of comfort is the posture that we train our bodies to return to through consistent habits.

Most of the human population has a forward flexed (head, shoulders, and torso) position of comfort due to the extended hours seated at a desk.  Back to the title of this article:  What is the proper head/neck position?

The proper resting position of the head/neck is neutral, meaning that the chin is gently tucked, the eyes are level to horizon, and shoulders are down.  Before you begin ANY exercise in ANY position, make a quick check of proper head/neck position.  Stay conscious of this positioning and recognize when your body tends to relax into a poor position of comfort.

Through practice and patience, your position of comfort can be perfect alignment!
