Lap Band Surgery - What to Stock Up on Before Surgery-Preparing for Surgery: What to Have on Hand
By Sandi Henderson
Printer-Friendly Format

As you prepare for your lap band surgery you will find yourself getting so much information that you may feel overwhelmed.  It will be easier for you, and those supporting you at home, to take a look at the following list of non-medical items you may want to have on hand.  Since each surgeon has their own program, be sure to clear the items on this list with your surgical practice before buying anything.

  • Protein shakes, and protein powders (taste-test and find the ones you like best before stocking up)
  • Water
  • Broth and other clear soups
  • Clear, no-sugar added juices
  • Sugar-free non caloric beverages (NO carbonated beverages)
  • Light sports drinks
  • Sugar-free popsicles
  • Sugar-free jello
  • Creamy soups
  • Applesauce or sugar-free pudding cups (if, and ONLY if your doctor permits you to take your medications with a spoonful of these)
  • Sugar-free hot cocoa
  • Decaf and herbal teas
  • Decaf coffee
  • Chewable vitamins
  • Small 2-4 oz plastic cups
  • A strainer (for removing chunks from creamy soups)
If you are preparing for surgery, CONGRATULATIONS!  You have done your research and decided to take control of your health.  Your lap band surgery is the first day of the rest of your life.  Welcome to Banded Living.  This list should have just about everything you need to get started.
