Is It Really Hunger OR Am I Tired?
By: Sandi Henderson From SandisBandedLiving Blog
Here it is, a few years later and I find myself hungry today. I stop, apply HALTS and realize I am tired. I had a bad night of insomnia last night. Good thing I am following a Kick Start eating plan this week -- super low carbs, lots of firm protein, and low carb veggies. I can add an extra snack of lunch meat, cheese or jerky to get me through. . . . keep reading
Daily Action Plans For Long Term Success After Lap Band Surgery
By: Sandi Henderson From SandisBandedLiving Blog
Been thinking about Daily Action Plans today and I went into a detail of what my days will look like this week to achieve my goal for the week which is to lose about 2 lbs. As I wrote my plan for my meals (all delicious by the way) and my fitness and my water I realized once again that it is in this act- this act of planning my days, knowing what comes next, and having a Plan B somewhere at the bottom of my purse for when things change, that has allowed me to be successful. . . . keep reading
Long Term Lap Band Success - The Rules - Why Do We Resist Them?
By: Sandi Henderson From SandisBandedLiving Blog
As I am embarking on my 14th year after weight loss surgery and maintaining a 250+ pound weight loss people often ask me how I do it. My answer is really not very complicated - I followed the rules my doctor gave me before surgery and I continue to follow them all these years later. The typical response to my reply is the glazed eye look and the statement "but it's so hard to________". You can finish it with whichever rule or rules you choose to put in there. . . . keep reading
Thirteen Years After WLS And Still Journaling
By: Sandi Henderson From SandisBandedLiving Blog
I am 13 years and 1 month Post-Op. My weight loss surgery has afforded me a new, healthy life which I am grateful for every single day. Wouldn't you think that after 13 years of eating "right", exercising regularly, staying hydrated and taking my vitamins, I could put my food journal away and just "live" my life like a "normal" person (whatever that is), and quit journaling my food? For me, the answer is NO! . . . keep reading
What's On Your Plate - Eating For Long Term Success After Lap Band Surgery
By: Sandi Henderson From SandisBandedLiving Blog
When I had surgery almost 13 years ago I progressed from liquids to mushies and then to solids as prescribed by my doctor. Once I was into solids my menu began expanding except for breakfast and lunch. I ate the same breakfast and lunch for 2+ years and boy did I ever get bored with it. I spent untold dollars on" bariatric foods" - pudding mixes, protein bars, and other highly processed items. . . . keep reading
My Mindful Eating Tips -- For Long Term Lapband Success
By: Sandi Henderson From SandisBandedLiving Blog
I sat down and wondered what I wanted to share in this week's newsletter. I've been thinking a lot about mindful eating as I have eating a little too fast lately and paying the price. I re-read this blog and thought - "It makes the points I need to make for myself and the entire WLS Community" - so here it is again. . . . keep reading
Planning To Be A Success - Setting Goals For My Health After Weight Loss Surgery
By: Sandi Henderson From SandisBandedLiving Blog
As you read this for the first time I will be 12 years and 2 months post-op from my Lap Band surgery. Oh, and did I mention 270 pounds lighter? I thought about the progression of everything it took to get me to where I am today, a fit, healthy, 67 year young woman enjoying life. It all started with that trip to the seminar about weight loss surgery, then the appointment with the bariatric surgeon, then all the tests and then surgery day. . . . keep reading

Long Term Lap Band Success - What Vacation Packing Looks Like To Me
By: Sandi Henderson From SandisBandedLiving Blog
I will probably be heading to the airport, leaving the garden island of Kauai when you all are reading this. I am most fortunate to have spent Thanksgiving Week with friends in Kapa'a doing what I love the most - swimming, hiking, snorkeling, exploring, and living each day as my best. Someone suggested to me before I left that I take a break from the stress of packing and I laughed. Why? . . . keep reading
Making Time In Your Day For What Matters - Long Term Lap Band Success
By: Sandi Henderson From SandisBandedLiving Blog
I found myself sitting and thinking about everything that had to get done. I was going over to the dark side with the thought that I will never be able to make this all happen in the time I have available. And then I caught myself, stopped, took a few calming breaths and restructured my thinking. . . . keep reading
Tricks To Change The Halloween Treats Around You
By: Sandi Henderson From SandisBandedLiving Blog
It's the middle of October and Halloween candy displays are in just about every store I walk into. It makes my inner child want candy corn and black and orange jelly beans, and licorice mustaches and chocolate treats, lots of chocolate treats. Not going to work for me if I want to stay where I am or improve my weight and health. . . . keep reading
Long Term Lap Band Patient Spends An Hour Sunday Planning For Success
By: Sandi Henderson From SandisBandedLiving Blog
One of the keys to not only losing the weight, but keeping it off was changing my lifestyle habits over these past 10 years. After my morning coffee, water is pretty much the only liquid I drink all day. That's how I get at least 64 ounces in, and that is also how I keep some "head hunger" at bay, and that is how I feed my body what it needs to carry the nutrients to all of my cells and regenerate them and keep my skin, hair, nails looking good, all my systems "go" and me feeling good. . . . keep reading
