A 14 Year Post-Op Weight Loss Surgery PatientAs most of you know I had Lap Band Surgery on May 28th, 2004 so I am officially 14 years post-op.  I am also turning 70 this year.  Had you told me 14 years ago that my life would be so incredible after surgery I would have rolled my eyes and walked away.

A 14 Year Post-Op Weight Loss Surgery PatientI just returned from 4 days in San Antonio Texas for the Weight Loss Surgery Foundation of America (WLSFA) annual fundraiser.  I am a member of the board of Directors and since this organization is staffed ONLY by volunteerism it was a hectic weekend of making things happen as planned.  It was wonderful!  Texas was wonderful!  San Antonio is a beautiful city, I met people I knew, and many new people.  We were all wrapped in this blanket of positive energy for the entire weekend.  And then -  Monday morning it was the flight back to reality.

I reached my house at about 7PM on Monday evening, brought in my suitcases, said hello to my granddaughter, then my cat, and then thought, hmm, what’s next?

A 14 Year Post-Op Weight Loss Surgery PatientWas it dinner?  Was it unpacking?  Was it doing laundry?  Phoning a friend?  Checking the weeks’ worth of mail?  NO!  Not any of these.  What I did next was put everything together in my gym bag for the morning and put my gym bag into my car.  Yes, me, formerly 424 lb. me was most concerned with getting to the gym early the next morning.  Ha!

Yes, sometimes I even surprise myself.  Between May 12th and June 4th I traveled from Ventura, CA to French Polynesia, back to Ventura, then to Long Island New York, then to San Antonio Texas, then back to Ventura CA.  I must look at a clock to figure out what time zone I am in and still, one of the first actions I take upon returning home is to get ready for my visit to the gym the next morning.

What did I do next?  We went out for a quick dinner at the sushi restaurant down the street and then stopped at the supermarket to pick up eggs for breakfast and salad fixings for lunch and dinner.  Then home to bed….  I took care of ME first.  My persistence is certainly paying dividends in my life.  It isn’t easy, but it certainly is worth it.

A 14 Year Post-Op Weight Loss Surgery PatientGotta go, time to start planning my next adventure.
