Still Pushing the EnvelopeSomething happened last night at dinner that hasn't happened in a very long time, although it has happened before.  I took that one bite too many.  I have a lap band and I certainly do know better, but I was watching TV and enjoying my perfectly grilled steak and asparagus and put that last bite of steak in my mouth, chewed it thoroughly, swallowed it and proceeded to get up from the table.

Still Pushing the EnvelopeEverything seemed okay, it felt like I was just past enough, probably shouldn't have had that last bite, but it wasn't stuck and seemed to be settling nicely.  I thought to myself that a warm cup of tea thirty minutes down the road and all will be fine.

Still Pushing the EnvelopeNot so much.  Within 15 minutes I began feeling that tightness in my chest and that feeling that something wasn't right.  I began walking around, hoping that would move things along, but that didn't work either.  Up the stairs, into the bathroom I went to try to make things right.  A little sliming and 5 minutes later and I was beginning to feel better and thought it safe to leave the bathroom.

I spent an uncomfortable evening for another hour or two as things began to settle and finally had a cup of warm tea and went to bed.

Still Pushing the EnvelopeToday I am staying with soft foods to make sure I haven't irritated my esophagus and then I will go back to my normal eating pattern.  One thing is for sure, it will be a LONG time before I eat steak while watching TV again.  Being mindful and taking care of my Lap Band, my Weight Loss Surgery Tool is much more important.

Have you ever taken that one bite too many and paid the price?
